How can a mental health occupational therapist help you?
The goal of occupational therapy is to help people live meaningful lives as independently as possible. Occupational therapy can help you engage or re-engage in everyday meaningful activities including work, study, parenting, social relationships, hobbies / leisure, and self-care.
Blue Lotus Allied Health’s approach is:
- Strength-based – concentrating on your individual strengths and attributes
- Holistic – working with you as a whole person, not just a ‘diagnosis’
- Person-centred – working in partnership to help achieve your goals

What services do we provide?
A range of services and therapy approaches are possible depending on your particular needs. Traditional ‘talking therapies’ may help you manage issues such as anxiety, depression, personality disorders / vulnerabilities, complex PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism and psychotic illnesses. Kylie Carney is Blue Lotus’s Managing Therapist and is trained and has extensive experience in a variety of modalities, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Your therapy will be tailored to your goals, and may include sensory strategies to help you change how you feel through your senses, strategies to deal with stress and emotions, consultation to improve routines and structure in your day to day life, or development of independent living skills.
If you are an existing or potential NDIS participant, functional assessment can help to provide evidence for NDIS applications or to identify how you can make the most of your NDIS funding.
Additionally, Mental Health Occupational Therapy can be provided to patients with a Mental Health Plan under the Better Access to Mental Health initiative. This currently provides up to 20 subsidised therapy sessions per year.
